                                                                    Latest Race Day Commentary:

Our September points race was held Saturday, Oct. 1, at James Island County Park so we could not only enjoy some commeraderie with  our friends at  CMYC, but also to  a special viewing of some incredible  RC schooners by Andrew Charters. The weather was gorgeous!  Except for an occasional paddle boater or kayaker, we had the entire lake to ourselves for all 6 exciting races. The Solings and RC Lasers got along just fine on the water and made for some very competitive and fun sailing action.  See Race Results page for  scores.  ( RC Lasers  only) .   After finishing our short series, we were treated to an incredible demonstration of poetry in motion when Bluenose took to the waves! Thank you again, CMYC, for an awesome day that any sailor would envy! And thank you, Andrew, for sharing some of your beautiful schooner and cutter collection! All were amazing!

Tuesday, August 23rd,  our August points race, made for really outstanding sailing!  Who knew that a fair northeast breeze would  provide such an incredible sailing experience for our favorite sailing venue at the dam?  The  6-12  mph NE wind came right through the "slot" at the north end of the dam and really worked out great!  "B" sails were the perfect choice, as Wayne discovered after the first race. Way to go, Wayne! Almost the whole gang made it to enjoy near perfect sailing conditions. And no SUP's to dodge this time!  Hopefully we'll see Jerry and Madelaine back now that cooler temperatures  prevail. Tom made a great showing. Not bad at all for using a loaner boat. Once Tom gets his own boat and  tunes it to his preferences, look out!  What a great day RC Laser racing on Lake Murray! Don't forget now, the September race will be held at James Island County Park in Charleston on October 1.  Be prepared for some great competition AND some RC schooner action!

Our July points race was rescheduled for August 4 at the dam. Our friendly competition turned out to be really awesome with "A" sails being the rule of the day. "B" sails were in the ready though and almost came into the game in the last 3 races.  We sure missed Jerry and Madelaine.  Hopefully they'll be back on the water with the gang again in September. Should be a bit cooler by then. Let's hope so!  It was nice having Tom back racing with the gang. Dodging stand up paddle-boarding kids made for  even more fun for all, including the kids!  Stay tuned for more points racing at the dam on August 23.

The June points race on the 28th  saw very high air temperatures and variable air, some actually from the north, then the west, then, well, it all made for some more challenging sailing and friendly competition.  The summer breeze was predictably low and the humidity high. None of that kept us from keeping the boats moving, at least MOST of the time. None the less, fun for all!

The competition just gets better and better as our May Points race on Tuesday, the 17th, proves. The weather conditions at the dam were very conducive for some really great sailing AGAIN.  Turn out was great and Pete did a really fine job as our very qualified Race Director.  The variable breeze mostly came from the northwest at 10-15, which made for something a little different than the norm at the dam.

Our April points race, Saturday, April 23,   at James Island County Park in Charleston was a great success!  Our hosts from the Charleston Model Yacht Club were fantastic and most hospitable! The weather was sunny and warm with a nice WSW breeze. We really could not have had it any better!  The entire gang from PMSC was there, along with several fine folks from the CMYC. The play by play race commentary was a nice diversion for anyone too wrapped up in the excitement of it all. Check out the race results page for race results.  A very hearty thanks  to all the fine folks from the CMYC.

Sailing at George's Pond on Saturday, March 12, was a sight to behold. The pond and its' surrounding countryside are beautiful. The pond is custom-made for RC sailing. The initially non-existent and chilly air made for some slow early sailing but finally picked up enough for our 9 race heats. The location would seem to favor a NE wind but the small air that we had was SW, so that too added to the challenge.  A big thanks to George for letting us sail at his fantastic pond!

Light air didn't stop our motley crew from making our February  26 Points Race at the dam a great success! The light and finicky ESE winds provided challenging racing conditions but the fearless skippers of PMSC prevailed!

Well success again PMSC!  Sunday, February 13,  provided for an afternoon of awesome sailing at Gibson's pond.  The prevailing SW breeze proved to be just right for some fun sailing. A lot of interest was shown by several families visiting the park so watch out for some new sailing buds soon!

Saturday morning, January 29, kicked off our  2011 sailing season with a really great points race at  the north end of the Lake Murray dam. ( see results  page.) Congrats to Wayne for placing 1st !   It's safe to say the day turned out to be really  awesome! A little cool early, but the temperature rose pretty quickly and helped make for some really exciting racing and some memorable sailing fun!  Everyone deserves a great big THANK YOU for  making our season opener a tremendous success! And a very special THANK YOU to the girls for helping out!  Our very own PMSC Cheerleaders !

Saturday, December 4, was a great time at the dam. We finally managed to get some points-scoring racing in with our 2010 PMSC  Christmas Regatta! Check out the Race Results page and Photo Gallery page for details.

Sunday afternoon, November 21, at the dam was another very fine time to sail!   Pete brought his "new" RC Laser in to join the fleet and to get the wrinkles out of his new boat. The lake provided a great venue for her maiden voyage under her  new skipper/owner. The air was light and primarily from the SW, and worked well for our location. "A" sails were, again, the way to go.  We managed to get in some very nice sail time before the wind finally fell off.  Don't miss our next buoy-rounding group sail. Stay tuned for more info soon.
